How To Move a Docker Image

With a few Docker command lines you can move Docker containers around: save and load

In the following example

$ docker save --output /tmp/planets-server-image.tar planets-server

we save a container to a tar archive and afterwards load it again:

$ docker load --input /tmp/planets-server-image.tar
511136ea3c5a: Loading layer [==================================================>] 1.024 kB/1.024 kB
fa4fd76b09ce: Loading layer [==================================================>] 197.2 MB/197.2 MB
...

Pro Tip: The default is to use standard out and standard in:

docker save | ssh devop@server docker load
